The Ghana Police Service for the first time in the history of the security institution is observing Police Week. The observance of the “Police Week”, which started on Saturday 24th November 2018 with the Community Walk ended last Friday 30th November 2018 under the theme “Renewing Police-Public Partnership for Community Safety”. Among other things it was aimed at enhancing effective co-existence between the Police and the citizenry to promote safer communities. Throughout the week Police Officers across the country, have engaged the public through various forms with education on road safety, holiday safety, child safety and crime prevention generally. To end the Police Week, there was a “Police Memorial Day”, an event commemorating Police Officers who died in line of duty. As efforts are being made to reduce disaster across the world, Ghana on the other hand continues to record human induced natural disasters. For instance the Burkina Faso Bagre Dam disaster in the Northern, Upper East and West Regions, the Kumasi church fire and the Bosomtwe District Soil erosion disaster caused by structural vulnerability of residential settlements were some of the human induced happenings. The 2019 budget is the third financial statement and economic policy of the NPP administration since the party took over power in 2017. The budgets were christened variedly. The first was dubbed ”sowing the seeds for growth and jobs” while the second one was themed ”putting Ghana back to work” or Adwuma budget. The ninth national delegates congress of the NDC will go down in the history of the country as well as the party itself as the longest with delegates having to spend more than 48 hours in expectancy. The congress could also be said to be the biggest ever in the annals of the country with more than nine thousand delegates from all over the country. It is however said all is well that ends well. The 11th edition of the TOTAL Africa Women’s Cup of Nation starts tomorrow, and Ghana, hosts the rest of Africa for the first time since the inception of the tournament. The senior female national team, the Black Queens who are in Group A, will be playing at the Accra Sports Stadium with The Fennecs of Algeria, Les Aiglonnes of Mali and the Indomitable Lionness of Cameroun. The Cape Coast Stadium will host 10 time winners, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Nzalang Nacional of Equatorial Guinea, Banyana Banyana of South Africa and the She-polopolo of Zambia all paired in Group B. Quite strangely, even though Ghana has missed out just once since the maiden edition in 1991, the Queens have never won the trophy. Ghana were runners up in 1998, 2002 and 2006.
